Senior Spotlight 3/22

Johnny Lee Barber was born on July 3, 1957, in Winnsboro SC. He is the proud father of Lakiesha Jordan, Christopher Goins, Tequita, Johnathan, and Towanne Simpson. He also has six wonderful grandchildren including Krishayla Boyd, who is a writer for The Fairfield Post.

Mr. Barber has lived in the Lake Wateree community for 61 years. He graduated in 1975 from Winnsboro High School, better known as the “Winnsboro Fighting Wildcats”. Mr. Barber has operated a landscaping business for the past 6 or 7 years. He is the chairman of the deacon board at White Oak Baptist Church #1, where he has attended his entire life. Mr. Barber loves the Bible. One verse that really stands out to him is John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life”. He likes this bible verse because he beleives God didn’t have but one son who he gave for the sins of the world.

In his free time, he likes to workout. He believes staying fit is a very important aspect of a person’s health. Mr. Barber’s favorite holidays are his birthday and Christmas. Mr. Barber’s birthday is important, as he would say, “It’s a celebration of himself and no life is better than your own.” Christmas is another one of his favorites, as he states “It’s a time for sharing and loving. It’s a celebration of the birth of Christ.”

His passion is to grow closer to God. Knowing about his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is important to him because he understands that being on Earth is temporary. Mr. Barber’s advice to young people would be to study about Christ and get a relationship with God because that’s a place you’re going to be forever. Mr. Barber often states, “Everything you do, good and bad, always acknowledge God first because he told you he would forgive.” The things that make Mr. Barber happy are spending time with his family, money, food, and seeing his wife smile. His favorite aspect about being a grandparent is seeing his grandchildren daily, laughing, and giving advice that they will need through life. Mr. Barber wants everyone to know that “You are somebody. You can be whoever you wanna be when you want to be it through Christ.”
